Hungry and still

Hungry and still Originally uploaded by Pallavi Barua.

This morning I captured this. I have this visitor everyday and well, it is not scared of us as its been born in the nest made by his parents in our guest bathroom sills. Now that bathroom being Rocky’s den, where he sits and reads his bike mags and thinks his thoughts and possibly smokes his smokes.. or whatever, they are lets say poo buddies.. It was just one fine day that we found two eggs nursed by two parents on that sill. Excited though we were like any other parents, we watched it carefully till one egg hatched. The other one was spoilt so it was thrown off the nest by the caring parents.. When we looked at the baby it was an ugly critter. We saw it grow and well as it grew, it became the poo buddy for Rocks and though this baby pooed a lot and dirtied my sill, I am sure, he was glad to have a companion once in a day.. hahaha !! So anyway, the day came when it was time for him to fly and well we did nudge him and off it went never to return again or so we thought. The news spread about this new nesting area and we had some pairs coming to inspect the nest and well we saw how dirty our bathroom was and pushed the nest away.. But surprise surprise, whenever it rains or some strong wind blows, this bird crouches in the same place where he was born and stays put. Security I guess. And morning time is his feed time. He will just come and stare at me sitting still till I give him his due.. Day before, he was there again at the bathroom window sill and Dad caught him from behind and this one did not even bother to flinch… Talk about extreme confidence or extreme stupidity… :) Sigh wish I could tell this bugger not to trust us humans so.. It only will make a meal of of this beautiful boyd.. :( If you like plays, do go for this.

Puravankara Presents Wedding Album Written by Girish Karnad Directed by Lillete Dubey Organised by and in support of India Foundation for the Arts Bangalore – July 10th & 11th, 2008 Time: 7.30 pm, Duration : 90 minutes, Language: English Venue: Chowdiah Memorial Hall Girish Karnad’s latest play, WEDDING ALBUM, is a wonderful, comic drama that is deeply revelatory about the India that we live in today. The play is produced and directed by Lillete Dubey and has a top notch cast from the Mumbai stage including Joy Sengupta, Suchitra Pillai, Zafar Karachiwala, Jayati Bhatia, Deepika Deshpande and Ira Dubey. It is supported by the best possible technical crew. Synopsis Traditionally a girl married a boy from the neighbouring village. In the globalised village, this ‘neighbourhood’ can be any corner of the earth. In the past, the bridal couple often saw each other for the first time on the wedding podium. Today a million emails, SMSes, phone calls, tapes and scanned images introduce them to each other. Yet one element of the plot remains unchanged: the couple agrees to enter an unknown, uncharted territory—each other. Wedding Album deals with an urban middle-class family: a daughter who lives abroad with her professional husband, a son who is a software designer, a younger daughter willing to marry a suitable boy from the US she has never met, a doting mother and a loyal cook. This is an educated, liberal and modern family. Each snapshot shows its members frozen in an attitude of respectability, yet each figure has a double image with a penumbra of a hidden life. Wedding Album is a hilarious and moving spectacle. Donor passes for Rs 500/- and Rs 300/- are available at the following Cafe Coffee Day outlets from Friday the 27th of June 2008. A crush..

First crush, the feeling of exilaration.. School days..

A tomboy whose only aim in life was to read as many books as she could and collect music.. Music was a contradiction. She learnt Hindustani Classical and yet spent most of her time locked in listening to rock music. She was a bundle of contradiction !!

The phone had just been installed and that became her best friend.. Besides that occult work, palm reading, face reading, meeting gypsies to learn card reading, movies, comics, tamarind and roadside junk food and good friends were the highlight of her life.

She had enough to do.. She would talk non-stop with her friends. Her folks just could not understand what she had so much to talk about. But for the tomboy, the phone became her best friend via which she could communicate. It was eighth standard. All of her friends were talking about their newly acquired boyfriends and to be acquired boyfriends.

This tomboy was busy being the team captain and doing what we now call as “people management” :P . Her team had to sing the best gospels and prayers. Her team had to be the best choir. Her team had to win the highest points in basketball match. When it came to friends she moved with all groups and wherever she went, she only heard about boys and read Photoromance secretly with her friends who got them to giggle at.

But life was to change for this tomboy who thought that somehow she was above all the boyfriend stuff. It was one of the those ordinary days that she was on her way to school. In the hills, those days, cars were unheard of. Mostly everyone walked and as she was on her way to reach the school gate… there was this absolutely adorable guy.. who passed her by with a shy look. She did not make too much of it. But she did feel a tingle. From then on, no matter what time she went, it was very obvious that something was wrong.

She would meet this guy everyday on her way in to school and on her way out to school. This boy would make sure that he would meet her and give those delicious shy looks.

Her heart started beating faster everytime she would think about the “chance” meeting.

They never talked, they just looked at each other.. it was like they had hundreds of conversations with each other through their eyes..

“Silence speaks volumes” had a new meaning to it.

At last she came down from her high horse to the living world of feeling and actually dreaming.. of things which she thought was silly.. LOL.. what a humbling effect that had on her..

Though there came a time when the rose colored spectacles crashed but to when one goes back to those days, one wishes one could digitally freeze those sweet moments..

In total naivety does one get so much joy.. no reason, no logic, pure feeling… such bliss.. :)
