A slice of home – The Naga Kitchen

Last Saturday, we planned to try this place out. So well heres a very unabashed review of that place. I have stopped doing restaurant reviews for a while but I could not resist writing about this place….

First thing that I came by and searched in Bangalore was the availability of momos and wherever I went, either it would take a long time to cook and it would be extremely expensive.. GAH.. come on !! I came from a place where momos would be 12/- and it would include some 10 to 15 pieces and would come with soup… and the taste was such that even today, I can remember it. Sigh.. nothing has come close to it.. either the wrap is too thick or the meat is not well done.. GAH

So anyway, I am digressing. Lets get back to the review.. and there is a relevance to this..

A little hard to find if you are not familiar with the area

The good part is that its not inaccessible. If you can reach the Kamanahalli Main Road, then, its smooth sailing, you just have to keep going straight till you see the landmark given in the address as given below. I tried to access the phone number via Just Dial Help but it was not updated.  I had to surf the net on my mobile to get this ad. Maybe the establishment could work on this .. Hence I have pasted the address for your reference. :)

The Naga Kitchen

A comfortable feeling I have felt before

This place is a rooftop and when we went, the lift was not working so we had to walk 3 floors up which did jog the appetite up… and it was no sweat but keep that in mind.. :)

As soon as we entered the place, it was like getting into a tree house… thats the first impression I got… a cozy tree house with tables and chairs.. :)

I also felt very much at home once I stepped in. I could sniff various flavors which already stirred up my starving imagination for what I would eat..decor was simple, traditional and with all the wood panels, very homey… if that was what they were aiming for.

A decent variety( we dedicated the meal to the pigs :) )

For a change the menu had a decent variety of traditional cuisine.

We ordered some Smoked Pork Chilli, pork momos and the Naga non veg thali which comprised of Naga Curry, boiled vegetables, Pork curry, Mashed potatoes traditional style, chutney ( dry fish) and smoked pork fry.

If you are not into pork, you can go for chicken.

Momos were ok, but the wraps could have been better given the fact that it had a chef from Nagaland.. so was not impressed with that. The chutney with the momos were awesome which I realised was the same base without the dry fish.

The smoked pork was awesome. It melted in my mouth.. Rocky wanted some chutney to go with it but it seems we have to order it seperately so we left it at that.  We did give our feedback though.

The Naga Thali (non veg) was more than we expected … and we were more than satisfied with the same.  I applaud the chef for recreating the traditional cuisine… It was wholesome, tasty and extremely satisfying…

The overall service was good.. so no complaints there..

For vegeterians, you have a decent spread too.. so no worries there.. but yours truly still has to try them dishes.. I loved the boiled vegetables, the Naga Curry and the mashed potatoes… comfort food.. :)

Is it worth a second/regular visit ?

Well yes… its affordable.. except for the pickles.. which I think is way too expensive.. 400/- plus for a small bottle..

After a long time, after Shioks in the old days, this is a place I would not mind frequenting… I hope they sustain the business for sometime.. :)

Unless you are a fan of North Eastern food and are familiar with the same you might not enjoy the same. But I encourage you to try.. One thing for sure, it will be nutritious and full of flavors.. so if you like to experiment with flavors, go for it.. :)

I will definitely go back there soon.. heres to more meals there… BURP !!
