Point of Reflection | Knowing others is wisdom, knowing yourself is enlightenment.

Static beats here and there

I am having an onset of writers block again.. but readers field… :)

Was going through a friend’s pics who were back from a cool holiday. I loved this pic the best .. now this is what I would call being one with the wild.. buhahaha.. I would love to do this..

I remember watching this series on tigers being maintained by monks and them believing that the tigers were reincarnates of the monks.

I had found this very interesting and this is one place I would like to visit..

What else… well I am planning a long trip and that is what is keeping me motivated for now..

This time it will be a train and a bus trip.. :)  Our travel friends are eager..

It rained like nobody’s business and today its sunny with a vengenance.. grrrr.. why do we have to have extremes..

Mutterings.

Change will occur in tradition when the pain of the existing method is higher than the pain of incorporating a new method.

Do we really need to wait till we peak our pain point ? Cant we predict and prevent?

Terrorism is like having a wild animal at our backyard who is going to snip at any moment and we co- exist inspite of that.. are we scared of their extinction ? Is it necessary to have them in the survival chain to reiterate what is precious ? Eradication is not a possibility … so lets domesticate it.. :)

Its better to survive in a world of illusion and create one own’s reality.. that way.. we set our own limits and our own freedom of existence..

What is your drug of choice ??  Mine is living with what I have.. Striving for more never really ends.. ( though this sounds impossible… how can we not ask for more ??)

Makes me yearn to go back to Shillong with a decent job and a simple lifestyle where tomorrow comes very slowly.. :) And I really envy my friends who are still living this.. with great ease…

Article which made me think

Employers are ultra sensitive to issues surrounding race or gender in the workplace, but the prevailing sentiment seems to be that being ageist is no big deal.

—————————————————————————————————————

The U.S. has made great strides against sexism and racism, but ageism seems to have been left to thrive.

Many feel they’re being shown the door to make room for the young people who will bring with them new, cutting-edge skills, since hiring managers seem to believe that an old dog is indeed incapable of learning new tricks. That’s ridiculous. It’s also impractical because, in IT, a shop would have to hire in a new group of people every couple of years to keep pace if they really believe tech knowledge is finite. No one can afford that kind of turnover.

And, apparently, the discrimination doesn’t end at the exit interview. The hunt for a new job is even tougher. More and more older job hunters are being counseled to stay away from chronological resumes because they could inadvertently reveal their age. And heaven forbid you should mention the year you graduated from school! Read More.

Should we go natural…

As its rainy season, I was thinking about many of the people around me who are falling sick because of the water or weather.. and was thinking of some of the natural herbs that heal..

Some of the common spices or herbs that we use could actually help us if we know what they are for..

Asafoetida (hing) : It is a digestive agent and a sedative. It helps in treating respiratory disorders, hysteria and nervous disorders in children. If pestled in lemon juice, cotton soaked in the juice and placed in the cavity of teeth can relieve pain quickly..

Bamboo : Leaves of the bamboo tree act as an aphrodisiac.. The leaves also help in strengthening the stomach and kills intestinal worms specially thread worms. Decoction of the tender bamboo shoots mixed with palm jaggery can be given once or twice a week in the last month of pregnancy to induce labor. In the first month of pregnancy it can be used to cause abortion.

Bishop’s Weed ( Ajwain) : Helps gastro intestinal disorders. A teaspoon of these seeds with little rock salt is a household remedy for indigestion. It also helps relieve common cold. A tbsp of Ajwain can be crushed and tied up in a cloth to be used for inhalation. A similar pouch placed near the pillow can also alleviate nasal conjestion.  A teaspoon of seeds placed in boiling water and inhalation of the same can help. Helps relieve migrane too.

Cardamom : Also known as queen of spices.. has many remedial powers. It strengthens digestion, bad breath, depression. Having powdered seeds of cardamom boiled in water with tea helps in the treatment of depression.

Cinnamon : Headache produced by exposure to cold air can be readily cured by applying a paste of finely ground cinnamon mixed in water over temples and forehead. Cinnamon can also be used as a natural birth control. It checks the early release of ova after childbirth. Intake of a piece of cinnamon every night for a month after child birth prevents early conception and also helps in breast milk. Cinnamon also checks nasuea, vomitting and diarrhoea. Its regular use in the rainy season prevents attacks of influenza.

There is so much that we can get from the very things that we eat that if we consciously use them, we would never need to depend on the pills and the meds that we turn to at every sniff or ache..

Its time we got back to nature as its abundant in what we need. We just need to look for it for common ailments.
