Education and how do we want it to evolve

This is something which has been in my mind for a while.

And to underline this, I just was thinking how we all need to be aware and think what we want for our children in terms of education.

I sometimes remember my school days and yeah all said and done it was fun but because I was a rebel and was fairly ok in my studies.

When I used to go through my subjects, I often used to wonder if I could go deeper into a subject and understand the concepts better rather than cram all of it and vomit for examination and grades sake.

If I followed a trend in my own pattern, topics that used to interest me took very little time for me to reproduce in a paper.

History, Algebra, Geography, Science, English, were some subjects which interested me a lot and took me less of an effort to get through and used to get the grades pretty effortlessly… why ?? … today I think it was because it stimulated the curious brain which is opening to creative imagination. Then there were subjects like political science which like took me ages to cram. Thought it was pretty useless subject actually..

The point of my ramble is that have we thought of trying to give a different style of education for our kids or are we automatically going to repeat what we went through..

A rush through a cramming session without sometimes understanding what we are cramming.

The power of “good in studies” goes to the best crammer and we sit feeling why our kids cannot catch up..

And chase our kids towards that goal of getting the highest marks and then getting into the so called best institutions and then throwing them in a world of competition and rat race.

Why are we not letting our kids grow at their own pace ?

Can we afford to help them choose their own subjects and learn in their own way ? Like the way an alternative education system works.

Is all that is needed can be got from books ?

Are marks all that important or do you want a child who is a well developed citizen in all aspects so that when the little one steps out to the world, it sees the world as a canvass on which it can shape its destiny with the available resources rather than jump into something without thinking and just because of peer pressure..

Can we… think on those lines ???
